Rik Mehta Brunch and Learn Tomorrow, and Update from Assemblywoman Dunn!

We wanted to pass on this great event tomorrow with US Senate candidate Rik Mehta (please check out our Facebook page for more details), as well as some key information from Assemblywoman Aura Dunn’s newsletter today:

In honor of all the hard-working moms of New Jersey. Tomorrow, Saturday, May 9th, I’m hosting a special WebEx event in honor of Mother’s Day.

Please join me as I moderate a Brunch and Learn with Doctors Reema and Reena Mehta as they discuss ‘Women, Children and the Coronavirus, Things to Know”. The health professionals will answer top of mind questions related to women and their children, such as:

  • Is it safe to nurse my child if I am COVID positive or think I may be?
  • Should my child wear a mask when playing outside?
  • Can COVID live on the surfaces of groceries and clothing?
  • Are pregnant women at a higher risk?
  • Can COVID be passed from a woman to her unborn child?
  • What is the timeframe for a COVID vaccine and can it be administered in children?
  • Will there be a second wave of COVID in the fall?
  • Do potential vaccines and treatments pose an increased health risk in women?

Reena Mehta-Sahai, MD is a board-certified allergist, immunologist and pediatrician. She graduated cum laude from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, completed her residency in Pediatrics at Texas Children’s Hospital and her fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at the University of Texas. Previous tenures for Dr. Mehta include faculty at the University of Texas and Assistant Professor at the prestigious Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Mehta joined a private practice group in Bergen county before moving to New Orleans where she currently has her own private practice. Dr. Mehta is a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, & Immunology and is frequently featured on local Fox News as a medical correspondent.

Reema Mehta, PharmD, MPH is a licensed pharmacist and public health expert in the area of medical innovation and drug safety. She is currently the Head of Risk Management and Safety Surveillance Research at Pfizer and is also appointed to the Drug Safety and Risk Management Advisory Committee at the United States Food and Drug Administration. Dr. Mehta has lectured at several universities on the safe use of prescription drugs and epidemiology, and has previously served as adjunct faculty at Rutgers University in biostatistics.

I hope you’ll join me tomorrow, May 9th, between 12 – 1 PM for our discussion of “Women, Children and the Coronavirus, Things to Know”.

Coronavirus Update

This is an incredibly hectic and stressful time for all, but we will return to normalcy. Together, we will get through this and we will come out stronger than before!

Please watch this video from Assemblywoman Dunn for more details

If you haven’t heard already, I tested positive for COVID-19. Thankfully, I am doing fine now and finished my two weeks of self-isolation. Thank you so much to everyone who has helped me through this time!

As we are now approaching two months of staying at home, we are starting to become restless and worried about our physical, emotional and financial well-being.

Below is useful information for those who may be struggling right now to get through this tough time:

Legislative Update

I’d like to share some of the non-coronavirus legislation I am working on:

A3173-Makes supplemental appropriation of $750,000 to New Jersey Library Network for continuation of services.

I have been a lifelong advocate for libraries, as they are a wonderful place where you can open your mind in numerous ways. I will always be a supporter for libraries!

A3284-Requires pharmacies to maintain minimum stock of opioid antidote.

The opioid epidemic affects people from every single walk of life. Ensuring more readily available access to the antidote in the event of an overdose will save lives!

A3599-Requires individuals appointed to serve as school anti-bullying specialist and district anti-bullying coordinator to serve in those capacities full-time.

The importance of mental health cannot be overstated. Bullying is one of the biggest negative factors of a students mental health; wedo our best to prevent it!
